Expert Italy Vacation Planning for an Authentic Experience
Italy has a way of capturing your imagination — ancient ruins standing alongside baroque churches, Tuscan hilltowns perched above vineyard-covered valleys, coastal villages clinging to dramatic cliffs. It’s a country rich in art, history, culture, food, and wine, with so much variety across its regions that you could return again and again and have completely different experiences. The bustle of Rome, the picturesque landscapes of Tuscany’s countryside, the beaches and coastal gems of the Amalfi Coast — Italy offers something for every kind of traveler.
But here’s the challenge: while there’s so much to see and do, you have to slow down to truly taste la dolce vita and experience Italy at its best. Finding the right balance between planned activities and time to explore can be tricky. You want to pace yourself so you can savor each place, but you don’t want to feel like you missed out on something special. And because Italy is such a popular destination, it’s easy to end up with the same typical tourist experience everyone else has, unless you plan thoughtfully for experiences tailored to what actually interests you.
That’s where I come in. I design custom Italy itineraries for couples and families who want their trip to feel personal, well-paced, and culturally meaningful. I take the time to learn about you and your interests so your travel plans are truly aligned with how you want to experience Italy. I help you figure out the right pacing so your trip feels enjoyable rather than exhausting. I work with proven travel suppliers so everything about your trip is high quality. And I manage all the logistics so you can focus on the exciting part: imagining your trip and then enjoying it when you’re there.
If you’re dreaming of Italy but feeling overwhelmed by the planning, let’s talk about how I can help make it happen.
How I Approach Italy Vacation Planning
My approach to planning custom Italy vacations is built on three core principles that help couples and families get the most out of their time in Italy.
Spend Where It Matters
Not every part of your trip needs to be five-star to have an incredible, premium vacation. I help you allocate your budget thoughtfully—saving on a charming three-star hotel so you can afford a private boat to Capri, or choosing a modest agriturismo in Tuscany so you have room in the budget for that wine tour you’ve been dreaming about. You get elevated experiences where they count, without overspending on things that don’t enhance your trip.
Pace Yourself
Italy rewards slow travel. I design itineraries that give you time to wander a neighborhood, linger over lunch, or take an afternoon off without feeling like you’re missing something. If you’re traveling with kids, I make sure the days aren’t too packed. If you’re empty nesters finally taking that long-awaited trip, I build in breathing room so you can enjoy it instead of rushing through it.
Experience the Culture
You want to experience the parts of Italy that excite you most—whether that’s Renaissance art, ancient history, regional wine, or simply the rhythm of daily life in a small hillside town. I help you connect with what genuinely interests you, not just check boxes on a generic itinerary. Thoughtfully chosen experiences, tailored to what you actually care about, are what make a trip feel truly meaningful.
Italy’s Regions & Experiences

Rome
Rome is where ancient history comes alive. The Colosseum, Pantheon, and Roman Forum let you walk through millennia of civilization, while the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica offer world-class art and architecture. Beyond the iconic sites, Rome's neighborhoods reveal the city's character — Trastevere's winding streets, Testaccio's food markets, trattorias serving carbonara and cacio e pepe the way Romans have made them for generations. Rome appeals especially to first-time Italy travelers and families exploring history together.

Florence & Tuscany
Florence is the heart of the Renaissance. The Uffizi and Accademia galleries showcase the period’s masterpieces, while the Duomo's dome and campanile define the city's elegant skyline. Beyond Florence, Tuscany unfolds into rolling vineyards and medieval hilltowns, like Siena, Volterra, and Montepulciano. This is wine country, where Chianti, Brunello, and Montepulciano can be experienced at the estates where they're made. Tuscany appeals to art lovers, food and wine enthusiasts, and travelers ready to slow down and explore. Choose a countryside home base, rent a car, and discover why this region rewards wandering.

Venice & the Veneto
Venice is utterly unique — a city built on water where gondolas glide through canals and bridges connect centuries-old neighborhoods. St. Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace, and the Grand Canal showcase Venice’s historic grandeur, while quieter moments reveal the city's character in early morning walks or evening aperitivo. Beyond Venice, the Veneto is rich in art and architecture: Verona's Roman ruins, Padua’s frescos by Giotto, and Vicenza’s Renaissance villas. Venice appeals to couples and culture seekers, while the broader region rewards travelers who want to explore beyond the canals.

Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is dramatic beauty at every turn—pastel villages clinging to cliffsides, lemon groves cascading down hillsides, sparkling Mediterranean views. Each coastal town has its own character: Positano's stacked houses and boutiques, Amalfi's historic center, Ravello's gardens perched high above the sea. Wander narrow streets lined with ceramic shops, catch ferries between towns, or relax on pebble beaches tucked into coves. The Amalfi Coast appeals to couples seeking romance and travelers who appreciate stunning coastal scenery.

Puglia
Puglia offers a slower, more authentic side of Italy. This is the heel of Italy's boot — whitewashed towns like Ostuni and Polignano a Mare, the unique trulli houses of Alberobello, endless olive groves producing some of Italy's finest oil, and Adriatic beaches without the Amalfi crowds. The baroque city of Lecce rivals Florence for architectural beauty, while small-town markets and family-run restaurants offer glimpses into everyday Puglian life. The food culture here is exceptional: handmade orecchiette pasta, fresh burrata from Andria, and local wines. Puglia appeals to travelers seeking authenticity over tourist hotspots, couples wanting slower pacing, and anyone drawn to genuine Italian culture.

Sicily
Sicily is Italy's largest island with a character all its own. Layers of history reveal themselves in Greek temples at Agrigento, baroque towns like Noto and Ragusa, and Palermo's vibrant markets reflecting Arab and Norman influences. Mount Etna, Europe's most active volcano, dominates the landscape and shapes the island's exceptional wines. The coastline ranges from rocky coves to sandy beaches, with charming towns like Taormina perched above the sea. The food is distinctly Sicilian: arancini, pasta alla norma, fresh seafood, and cannoli. Sicily appeals to travelers drawn to history and architecture, couples interested in romance and adventure, and those seeking a place genuinely different from mainland Italy.

Italian Lakes Region
The Italian Lakes blend Alpine scenery with Mediterranean charm. Lake Como's elegant villas and lakeside towns like Bellagio and Varenna are perfect for ferry hopping and waterfront strolls. Lake Maggiore offers the ornate Borromean Islands with their palaces and botanical gardens, plus mountain vistas across the water. Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake, combines dramatic northern cliffs with gentle southern shores, vineyards, and olive groves. Ferry rides between charming towns make exploring easy and scenic. The lakes appeal to nature lovers, couples seeking romance and relaxation, and travelers who appreciate a slower pace.

Cinque Terre & the Italian Riviera
The Cinque Terre is five colorful villages perched along dramatic cliffs on the Ligurian coast — Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Each village has its own character, connected by coastal hiking trails with stunning Mediterranean views. Trains link the villages for easy exploration, or ferry between them in summer. Beyond the Cinque Terre, the Italian Riviera offers beach resort towns like Levanto, Santa Margherita Ligure, and yacht-filled Portofino, where waterfront promenades and pebble beaches invite relaxation. This region appeals to active travelers who enjoy hiking and nature, sun-seekers drawn to coastal beauty, and couples looking for both adventure and relaxation.

How I Plan Your Italy Trip
When you work with me, you’re not just getting someone to book hotels and tours. You’re getting an Italy vacation planning partner who helps you make sense of the possibilities and design a trip that actually fits how you want to travel.
We start with a conversation. I ask about your travel style, what excites you about Italy, how you like to spend your days, and what you want to avoid. Are you early risers or do you prefer slow mornings? Do you want more activities planned or flexibility to wander? Are you traveling with kids who need breaks, or empty nesters ready to fill your days? This is where I learn what matters most to you.
Then I design your itinerary. Based on our conversation, I create a custom Italy itinerary with destinations, pacing, accommodations, experiences, and transportation that match your interests and travel style. You’ll get thoughtful recommendations with options — not a one-size-fits-all template.
We refine it together. I share the proposal, you tell me what resonates and what doesn’t, and we adjust until it feels right. This is your trip, and the itinerary should reflect that.
I handle the bookings. Once you’re happy with the plan, I coordinate everything — transportation, hotels, tours, activities. You don’t have to track confirmation emails or worry about whether everything connects properly.
You travel with support. Before departure, you’ll receive detailed travel documents with everything you need. While you’re traveling, I’m available if anything comes up. After you return, we’ll debrief and start dreaming about the next adventure.
Planning Fees
I charge transparent planning fees based on trip complexity:
- $300 — Simple trips (single destination, up to 7 nights)
- $500 — Standard custom itineraries (two destinations or 8-14 nights)
- $750 — Complex itineraries (multiple destinations, 15+ nights, intricate logistics)
These fees cover the time and expertise that go into designing your trip, researching suppliers, coordinating bookings, and supporting you before and during travel.
Who This Works Best For
You’re probably a great fit if you value cultural experiences, appreciate expert guidance, and want a well-designed trip without the stress of planning it yourself. This might not be the right match if you prefer handling every detail on your own or if finding the absolute lowest price matters more than quality and service.
